Our History.

Arcola, once known as the Broomcorn Capital of the World, is home to the Libman Company—the largest broom manufacturer in the USA. In 1898, Arcola hosted a temporary Broomcorn Palace that welcomed 20,000 guests in just five days—without cars or modern marketing.

Now, honoring that legacy and the community’s deep ties to broom-making, Arcola is proudly unveiling a permanent Broom Palace: a unique destination celebrating history, craftsmanship, and local pride.

Inside The Broom Palace.

On the first floor, guests will find a Libman retail store, a short film on broomcorn history, and a display of handcrafted brooms. The second floor features A Walk Through Time Museum, highlighting Arcola’s story, including its ties to Raggedy Ann and Andy.

At the top, an open-air observation deck offers sweeping views of Arcola’s vibrant murals and famous “Sweeping Beauties,” showcasing why Arcola is known as the Public Art Capital of Central Illinois.
