If the traditional Fourth of July festivities leave you wanting more,
then just wait till Sunday, July 6, 2008. Arcola will again celebrate
Independence Day with its annual Freedom Celebration in Moore Park
featuring live bluegrass music, activities for children, an exhibition
soccer match, bingo and the fireworks.
“The fireworks really cap off the evening, but we’ll have a lot of fun
stuff throughout the evening for the whole family,” said Arcola City
Administrator Bill Wagoner.
This year’s fireworks show blasts off at 9:15 p.m. The main attraction
will be a 10-inch super shell, which “launches high, has a huge bang,
glitters and sparkles,
Those attending are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets as the
park’s bleachers fill up fast. |

Each year in August, people from all over the region converge on Arcola
as the cleaning out the closet ritual begins and the their huge annual city
wide garage sale takes place on August 1 & August 2 . This really is an adventurous experience to
those of you who enjoy the competitive hunt for life's little treasures.
Over 60 Residents participated in the City Wide Garage Sales. You can
find the location maps at the Historic Train Depot/ Tourist Information
Center/ Arcola Chamber of Commerce 135 N Oak Street.
Or the Shell Gas Station just off of I-57 or Casey's General Store on Rt. 45 |
September 5, 6, 7, 2008 - Come to Arcola For the 38th
Annual Broom Corn Festival! Take your children to the carnival
or bring them to one of the longest festival parades there is with
plenty of free candy to be distributed all over! Then, put on your
tennis shoes, and get ready to browse through the many Art & craft
and Street vendors. Enjoy the unique food vendors, and More!
Bring your lawn chairs to kick back, relax and listen to the live
entertainment . Don't forget to get your history lesson to find out how
brooms are made and why they are such a big part of Arcola's past too.
The Beer and Wine Tent has great evening entertainment for those who
enjoy the night or to sit back in the afternoon and enjoy your
favorite ball team on the Big Screen TV.
